Win a Yarn Butler or make your own!

ChiaoGoo
You can win this yarn butler over at Great Holiday Giveaway at CrochetMe's site.

Or if you don't win it you might make your own.  My husband made this one for me several years ago but its original use was a stand for some crocheted, lighted Christmas trees my mom and I made.  My dad made the original stand for my Mom's crocheted trees and hubby copied that one.  I will post pics of the tree when I get Christmas decorations out of attic.

But a couple years ago when I was having problems with my thread rolling all over the floor he made this one to hold the thread.
He used a 2" dowel and 3/4" plywood.  I recommend you make the bottom plate a square instead of rectangle so it sets up better.

The thread doesn't roll all over the floor this way!

And even the jumbo skeins of thread fit!

I use an empty paper towel roll to wrap bulky yarn around rather that fighting the tangle and knots that can result from trying to pull from center of skein and/or the outside of skein.

I sometimes use it for 3 ply and 4 ply also.

It also works for Red Heart Sashay for the ruffled scarves.  I wrap the thread around either a toilet paper empty roll or paper towel empty roll.  I stretch the Sashay yarn width wise so it is already to crochet into rather than having to stretch every few seconds.
