Snowflakes, snowflakes, snowflakes and some web browsing finds!

After giving away a few dozen snowflakes for Christmas gifts I just received a couple orders for a dozen each so busy with them this week.

I have a few patterns that didn't print out a picture with them so for some insane reason I decided to crochet those today so I could take a pic and attach them to the patterns.  Big mistake!  They take longer without a visual because you can't just look and kind of know what they mean in the directions.  Also, 1 pattern had a mistake at the very beginning of a round so had to tear the round out and start again and figure out for myself what was needed to start the round.

The first one I just fudged the last row just to get a snowflake out of it.  Not happy with it but I will try again another time when I am not feeling so rushed.  I forgot to take a pic of the messed up one but forgot.  :(
this is the one from the pattern that had a mistake.  I don't know if it is worth re-writing the pattern with the row(s) fixed or not.

The 4 patterns above are from a website with quite a few
snowflake patterns .

Some of the snowflakes that got included in the snowflakes I sold.

This is a button that I did while trying to create a snowflake button of my own.  I got the idea from Vicki Clarke.
this is Vicki Clarke's which after trying to make a snowflake and ending up with a flower I realized you need a 2-hole button to make 6 points.
But I like my flower.

I have officially designed & wrote a pattern for my first crocheted snowflake. You can find the pattern here,  Sailor’s Heart Snowflake!

I am sharing (if I have done this correctly) a PDF with the pattern all written out.  But I have published it without having it tested  only because I wanted to publish this post on Veteran's Day 2013 in honor of my father, Francis Lee Johnson.  Dad died in 1999 but I feel his presence quite often and know that he probably has that sweet smile of his knowing that I did this in honor of him!

Here is portrait drawn of him while on the ship that was his home for more than a year.

And I need to give many thanks to Snowcatcher at http://www.snowcatcher.net/.  She has brought to the surface my love for snowflakes that I have always had,  gave me the chance to share that love of snowflakes via her Snowflake patterns with my family and friends.  And her and her creations have helped me through some of the depression that I experience from Multiple Sclerosis.  She is one awesome woman!  Thanks Deborah!  And thanks for riding in the BikeMS to help raise funds for those of us with MS so someday there may be a cure!

If you use my pattern to crochet this snowflake please let me know if you find any mistakes, share pictures of the Purple Heart Snowflake you made and let me know if the pattern was easy enough to follow and what you would  change!

Be gentle!  I cry easily :-( I have MS to blame  for that also and it even has a name, it is called Pseudo Bulbar Affect or PBA. You can find info on it here.

Just kidding, I do have PBA but I can take constructive criticism!

Happy Monday and thanks to all the veterans out there that have fought for our freedom throughout the years!

God Bless America!

Crochet, crochet, crochet

Wow!  Crochet, crochet, crochet!

Good thing I love to crochet because I have been doing a lot of it lately.  Some for orders I have received, some just because, and some for memory blankets for families that have lost children to disease and accidents.

Making the squares are so gratifying.  You can't help but think about what the families must be going through at this terrible time during their lives.

If you might be interested in a project like this here is the link to the group that do these.  You can sign up to make squares, put blankets together or donate money towards the shipping of these blankets.  The group has a FB page so visit us there.  JTL Squares

The last two I sent out were for a family that lost 2 of their daughters in a car accident and a 3rd daughter is still in ICU with a head injury.

I also have been making some baseball caps for little guys!  I have sent one off to Hawaii, one to Maryland, and one stayed here in Michgan!

and this little set is for sale on my FB page, Brenda's Bric-a-Brac.
I thought "Daddy's Little Girl" would make a for a great photo prop.  This set is newborn size and consists of a football hat, leg warmers and a crocheted pink football!

And last but not least!  As a matter of fact is one of my favorite things to make! A snowflake!  And I find most of my patterns here,  Snowcatcher's blog and the snowflake I used is her February 14, 2011 pattern.  But this is not just just a snowflake  but a 3D snowflake!  This one is going to California!  but check it out! My 3D snowflake

And I came across this wonderful idea!  I wish I had thought of this or come across the idea while my boys were little and the grandkids were younger!  But I think my grandkids will still enjoy making these.  Great idea from  "Lines Across": Turn baby scribbles into bows (Gift Bow Tutorial)

Have a great Monday!!  I love Monday's because they are Snowflake Monday on Snowcatcher!!

This mess, urr ummm, gathering of materials, lead to..

this!!

I call it my Festive Trio of Snowflakes.  I love it but my next trio of snowflakes will be called Elegant Trio of Snowflakes.  I find snowflakes both festive and elegant.  I'll be glad when I get my camera back.  I am not a photographer, far from it, but using the phone for a camera just isn't getting any great photos.  I left my camera in my sister's car while she was here in Michigan visiting.  Since she is from West Virginia my camera is either there or somewhere in between.  I am hoping the mailman brings it to me today.

I have been crocheting a couple hats this week also, a bonnet, which is not finished and a baseball cap for a newborn which is just the ultimate in cuteness.

The bonnet is my own design so it is taking a little longer, crochet a little bit, oops too large, oops too small, pull the stitches out and start again.  Oh, and don't forget to write and rewrite what that last round consisted of, increases, decreases, sl st or dc, work even!  You know the drill if you crochet or knit.

I still have the Giveaway going on but this will end Friday, August 31, 2012 at noon EST so hurry over to
for chances to win some snowflakes, a couple of hats and a 3D snowflake.  No cost to enter just Like, Comment  and Share the items you would like to win.

And while you are there check out all the items I have for sale and give me some ideas about items, sizes, or colors you would like to see offered.

Labor Day weekend!  Where did the summer go?  This is the time of year I get a little sad.  I was an Elementary School Secretary and I miss seeing all the new faces and returning students!  I tell myself every year I will go volunteer but I have only done that a couple of times.  So, just a reminder school is or will be soon in session so watch for all those students while on the roads!
