Asking for donations-hoping for a cure for MS.

I went to a fundraiser for MS tonight.  I was there in the capacity of what is called an "MS Ambassador"  for the National MS Society, Michigan Chapter.  An easy thing to do, set up a table, put brochures out, and mingle with people there and hand-out some of brochures if they are interested.

I think I talked a couple friends of the person with MS who was selling her art at this fundraiser to join one of the WalkMS events.  And also a couple that happened to just stop by  the coffee house where it was held and they seemed interested in doing more for the MS Society and hopefully will be raising money for us and walking in one of the WalkMS events here in Michigan!!  Yea!!

I'm telling you, I seriously believe there is a cure just around the corner for MS.  And research needs to be funded so fundraising is very important.

I will be walking in the Frankenmuth WalkMS event here in Michigan on May 12th, rain or shine!  This will be my 4th year and I always make a new friend there, re-unite with old friends, and enjoy the comradeship of walking and eating lunch with my teammates on the team I walk with, the ShiaWalkers!

I have never been comfortable asking for money but I have gotten over that when it comes to this time of year and such a great cause that is near and dear to my heart.  But I don't walk for me, I walk for a friend of mine, Catina, who is 34 years old and has had MS for at least 10 years, 4 of those years she has been living in a nursing home, pure torture for her and for those that love her.

Catina is fed through a tube, completely bedridden, is unable to talk except for an occasional yes or no.  She loves music and up until 6 months ago she would sing along to songs.  I miss her voice!  I love her smile!  She deserves so much more.

If you would like to donate to the NMSS and all those that are afflicted with the disease, multiple sclerosis, here is the link to donate to my walk team, ShiaWalkers!

I want to thank Deborah Atkinson from Snowcatcher for her generous and kind donation to this cause.  She rides for Bike MS and does lots through that for people with MS!  Thanks Deborah!  Check her great blog at http://www.snowcatcher.net/  Right now she is facing lots of challenges after breaking her right wrist in bicycle accident.  Hope she heals real quick but she is doing fantastic things with her left hand even tho right handed.

Thanks!

My adopted doll!!

I won this doll in an auction at Listia.  This is a site where you don't have to spend any money if you don't want to because you earn Listia credits to use to  bid on items listed.  Different things you do, for instance, just sign up, invite friends, etc. earn you credits to use to bid on items.  Some are even free shipping.  http://www.listia.com/

Anyways, I was looking for an 18 inch doll that I could use for a "model" for the clothes I crochet.  Instead I came across this doll, she just cried out to be adopted and dressed up!  She was naked in the listing and when she arrived to me she was still naked.
And here she is dressed in the outfit made especially for her!
Now I have to decide if she will continue to live with us
or find her a home with a little girl that would love her and take good care of her!

I'm thinking the clothes for her would fit the 18" dolls by just making them a little longer.  My granddaughter and great-niece each have an 18" doll so I will be able to try the clothes on them.  If they fit then this doll will continue to be my model for clothes that I make!  Which means she will continue to be spoiled here at our home.  :-)

Now I need a name for her!  Any suggestions??

Remember March is MS Awareness month!  Wear your orange proudly and send me your pic and I will post it here!!

Littlest Mouse off my crochet hook!!

This one I did today, my granddaughter told me she lost her mouse that goes with one of her tiny dolls so I made one today because she will be over here for supper tonight and I love doing things like this for my grandkids!  Who wouldn't??

I don't know what the dolls are called, they are smaller than Polly Pockets.  I am hoping this little mouse will be small enough.  He is only 3/4 inch long minus tail and the pets that go with these dolls are not in proportion like real life.  If not she will just love it for itself!

I started with a pattern from Crochetville by KristieMN and called Little Mouse Pattern.  That pattern called for ww yarn but I used crochet thread, size 30 and a size 1.25 mm crochet hook.

I did the first 7 rows  by the pattern and knew I needed to start decreasing because I didn't want it much bigger so I just decreased until I could sew it up.  Then I crocheted the ears but my own pattern for these was: ch. 2, 8 hdc in 2nd ch from hook and finished off.  I then embroidered his eyes, mouth, nose and ears using pink and blue crochet thread.

Here is a pic of him.  Note that he is sitting on a dime.  I think he is adorable!

March is MS Awareness Month
MS Orange 9" Frisbee

If you know someone with MS let them know you care and will be there for them if they need you.

I am one of the lucky ones with some mild symptoms compared to others so just a reminder that you can't always see what others are dealing with, you need to ask if they ever need your help that they will promise to tell you so you can be available and please follow through on this offer to help if they ask.

If you have any questions about MS, what it is, who it affects, what are the symptoms, where there might be a local Self-Help Group meeting, where you can attend programs about MS online or in your community I recommend http://www.nationalmssociety.org, it is the best site I have found for accurate information on multiple sclerosis.

I will be walking in the Frankenmuth MSWalk here in Michigan on May 12th.  I will be posting info on how you can donate for this walk as soon as I have signed up on their official page.  It just opened up for registration and our team captain has to put our info in so our team members can sign up.

And ask me questions here if you want to and I will try to find answers to your questions.

Visit the Walk MS Web site (link opens in a new window)

And wear some orange this month for MS Awareness!!  Thanks.
