I have officially designed & wrote a pattern for my first crocheted snowflake. You can find the pattern here,  Sailor’s Heart Snowflake!

I am sharing (if I have done this correctly) a PDF with the pattern all written out.  But I have published it without having it tested  only because I wanted to publish this post on Veteran's Day 2013 in honor of my father, Francis Lee Johnson.  Dad died in 1999 but I feel his presence quite often and know that he probably has that sweet smile of his knowing that I did this in honor of him!

Here is portrait drawn of him while on the ship that was his home for more than a year.

And I need to give many thanks to Snowcatcher at http://www.snowcatcher.net/.  She has brought to the surface my love for snowflakes that I have always had,  gave me the chance to share that love of snowflakes via her Snowflake patterns with my family and friends.  And her and her creations have helped me through some of the depression that I experience from Multiple Sclerosis.  She is one awesome woman!  Thanks Deborah!  And thanks for riding in the BikeMS to help raise funds for those of us with MS so someday there may be a cure!

If you use my pattern to crochet this snowflake please let me know if you find any mistakes, share pictures of the Purple Heart Snowflake you made and let me know if the pattern was easy enough to follow and what you would  change!

Be gentle!  I cry easily :-( I have MS to blame  for that also and it even has a name, it is called Pseudo Bulbar Affect or PBA. You can find info on it here.

Just kidding, I do have PBA but I can take constructive criticism!

Happy Monday and thanks to all the veterans out there that have fought for our freedom throughout the years!

God Bless America!

  1. What a wonderful treasure to have that drawing of your dad! And I love your purple heart snowflake! I agree; you should make one in purple! and one in gold, and maybe even one in red, white and blue, even though that would be a mess of ends to weave in if you did stripes...

Congrats on your first pattern! It's wonderful!

  2. This drawing has been a blessing. I have the original and copies have been made by nephew who is a photographer.

I do need to make it in purple but alas that will have to wait. I checked my stash and I don't have any in the right color purple. Maybe a gold one or two. And maybe a red, white and blue.

Thank you for all your encouragement throughout the last couple of years!

  3. If you have downloaded this pattern you may want to go back and download it again. I corrected a mistake that was pointed out to me in rnd 4. The 2nd asterisk was in the wrong place.

I corrected it today, November 15, 2013 at 5:15 pm EST.

Sorry if this has caused any problems.
