I have finished ten headbands that I will send to a person that is going to visit villages  in Africa.  Her goal is 500 headbands to hand out to the girls in the villages.  I can't wait to get them into the mail today.  My husband was fascinated by the idea that something I made was going all the way to Africa and will be worn by little ones over there.  Me too!

http://snappy-tots.com/ is where I found the information for Rainbow for Africa.

I love to make my own greeting cards but I do not do it often enough.  I think that is because I am not proficient at it.  Each time I do it I mess up lots of card stock but I will conquer this one of these days.  In the meantime I keep practicing.  These are a couple ideas I came up with.  Being mostly a right-brained kind of person I like the ones I print off on the computer the best.  I love the idea of crocheting tiny objects or motifs and attaching them to the card to hopefully be displayed in the homes they will be mailed to.  The two below will go to our grandkids in Indianapolis.  I am thinking of putting a magnet on the back of the motifs and then sticking them on the cards with 3-D buttons (I called them thingies in the last post).

Tomorrow my husband and I will celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary!  Not bad for a couple who were married at the young ages of 18 and 16.
We have two wonderful sons, 1 fantastic daughter-in-law and
 4 indescribably awesome grandchildren!

I hope your day is great and you have lots of good plans to do what you like to do most!  Mine will be spent packing for our short get-away and crocheting!

More love and hearts!

Still doing hearts!  I think I found my favorite of all times!  But if you are a crocheter you know we can be very fickle, the next favorite of all times may be the next time one appears of the end of your hook and the former love gets less love.  Fickle, I say!!

The large one in the center of the 3 pink ones was supposed to be for a hot pad but I did it with thread and stiffened it.  I'm thinking it will hang from my light fixture above my kitchen/dining table!  I found the pattern at FreeCraft  http://www.freecraftunlimited.com/heart-crochet-hot-pad.html

But my favs are the two on each side of it!!  And I found they are easier to crochet than they look.  They are called "Lacy Little Hearts"  by Daniela Herbertz and can be found on her blog.  http://danielasneedleart.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/lace-little-hearts.jpg

She did some really cute things with different sizes of them.

I'm in the rough draft stage of making either valentine cards or thank you cards using my small hearts that I have made.  I am not creative when it comes to writing but I am sure I can search the web and find some clever words to put on the front of the card with my hearts.  I happened to get some tiny little two-sided tape thingies in the mail trying to get me to buy their card-making kits.  I very seldom buy kits but the "thingies" come in handy to tape my hearts on the cards I am creating.

Here is my rough drafts:  any great ideas for me??
And I have to share the bag I won during a give-away on FaceBook.  Thanks to Personalized Frames!!  Love the color and everything else about this bag.  Just absolutely perfect to keep my current projects in.  Maybe you could go to her FB page and give her a little love!  https://www.facebook.com/personalizedframes?sk=wall&filter=2

Talking about projects!  I am making some headbands for some girls in Africa.  If you are interested in helping out in the endeavor here is the info for this:  http://snappy-tots.com/archives/883.  You will get a pattern that works great for your scrap yarn. It is called Crocheting a rainbow for Africa. I made 6 of them in less than 1 hour last night.

Have a great day!!

What's been on my hook lately

I have spent way too much time on the computer lately.  I keep finding new blogs, new things to pin on Pinterest, patterns to print out and try.  It is so much fun!!

This has been some of the the things at the end of my hook lately:

HEARTS!
But what to do with them??

I hung 3 of them in the window!

What else is on my hook?
Doll clothes for my great-niece's American Girl Doll!  I hope they fit the doll.  I need to buy me an 18 inch doll if I am going to continue making these outfits.  The hat on the left I am pretty sure will be too big but I will figure something out for it!  I probably will add more to the ruffle and make it a hat for a little girl to wear to Sunday school.  I have one little one in mind for it.

And  Snowcatcher's Blog has snowflakes that keep beckoning to me!!  Make me!  Make me sparkle!  Hang me up for all to see!!  Make a mobile!!

Autism Awareness pins

Using Lisa's puzzle pieces ideas  at Lisa's Craft Blog puzzle piece ornaments I created my first Autism Awareness pins.  It is the first one and I plan to expand on the idea and make different things to raise Autism Awareness!  Thanks Lisa for the idea!

Laying out all my supplies I will need:  Lisa's page that I printed out, acrylic paints, puzzle pieces, glue, brushes, etc.

Second step was to paint the pieces in colors of most Autism Awareness puzzle pieces.
then, deciding how I want to lay them out
After gluing one set of 3 puzzle pieces on a popsicle stick I then glued the pin on with hot glue gun.  And decided on the way I wanted the other pin's pieces arranged so glued them together while I had the glue gun out.

And then my finished project!

Snowflake pattern

I promised you my snowflake pattern.

The original snowflake pattern for "small snowflake" that I found online somewhere is:

Rnd. 1     Into magic circle chain 3, 11 dc, sl st into ch 3
Rnd 2      *Ch 3 skip next dc, sl st in next dc -repeat from * around and fasten off
but for my larger snowflake but for mine  don't fasten off.
Rnd 3       Ch 5, sl st in top of Ch 3 space of previous round 5 times, ch 2, dc in last ch 3 space
Rnd 4       Ch 4, dc, hdc, sc in post of dc in last round, (sc, hdc, dc, tr, dtr, ch 3
and sc in top of dtr, tr, dc, hdc, sc) in next 5 ch 3s of previous round.
in ch 2 space of last round sc, hdc, dc, tr, dtr, sc in
top of dtr,  and sl st in top of  ch 4 that started this round.  fasten off

stiffen with white glue, sprinkle with glitter and let dry.

Enjoy on your tree!

And remember to not make the mistake I made with my snowflake!!  Can you find it??  I have 7 points on my snowflake instead of the 6 that should be if you follow the pattern.  How I did this, I don't know but it is not the first time and certainly won't be the last.

I made a sweater and cap for my grandson's teddy bear!  They sent me a pic of it so I have to share!  The cute little boy here is my only grandson, Eddie!!

I have just started following a blog, Lisa's Craft and found this cute idea for phone case for your cell phones.  Check it out.  http://lisascraftblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/version-cell-phone-pocket.html

The Holidays

Wow, the holidays were awesome this year!  But a little rough on my MS!  I find myself really dragging but just need to rest for a few days and I'll be up and running..well, back to my regular routine.

A very important day this Sunday and we have planned a surprise get-together for that celebration.  My mom turns 80!  We'll be happily busy all weekend! One of the highlights of this weekend is sister from WV and her family will be here for the celebration!  We see them throughout the year but never enough times, the trip from WV to MI is a long road trip.  We are hoping most of my mother's  children, grand-children and great-grand children will be there.  Although, I am pretty sure my youngest son and his family will not be here from Indianapolis because they were just here for Christmas (and moved from one home to another before and after the trip to MI) and a grandson in Maryland will probably not be able to make it because of work.

It is always difficult to get so many of us together anymore but those that can make it will do so and those that can't will be here in spirit.  The picture on the left is at a wedding this summer.  In the pic are my mom, myself and my 4 sisters.  Our brother died in the '70s but left us with 3 beautiful children and now we enjoy all his grandchildren too!

Before the holidays I crocheted a pattern called small snowflake and it was really small so I went on to make it larger.  I can't take credit for the pattern because of the beginning not being mine but thought I'd post pics of it.  I made a mistake, can you spot it?  Even non-crocheters should be able to spot it!

While I am on the subject of snowflakes just a reminder to visit Snowcatcher's blog http://www.snowcatcher.net/ on Mondays and find all her patterns and pics of snowflakes!  I have printed out most of her patterns and made lots of them.  I love snowflakes and especially love her patterns!  Some are challenging but I love a challenge!  I am not a person that finds one pattern and repeats that over and over. I find that too boring. Although some of my snowflakes are repeats most are one of kind for me.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and you have many great days in the year to come!  2012! wow!
